Hardwood & engineered wood
Solid oak, walnut and other hardwoods bring warmth to extensions and renovations. For properties prone to moisture we recommend engineered boards: a hardwood veneer bonded to ply, which resists movement better than solid. We fit both using adhesive and mechanical fixings, sand and finish if required, and ensure expansion gaps are maintained around the perimeter.
Vinyl & luxury vinyl plank
Vinyl is durable, waterproof and easy to clean. Modern LVP (luxury vinyl plank) looks increasingly like timber or stone, suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and commercial areas. We lay it on a properly prepared and level subfloor, with acoustic underlay if required, and seal edges to prevent moisture ingress.
Laminate & engineered composite
Affordable and durable, laminate suits family homes and commercial spaces where budget is tight. We source products tested for moisture resistance and install with expansion margins. It cannot be used in wet areas, but is excellent for living rooms, bedrooms and corridors.
Tile & stone
Ceramic, porcelain and natural stone are ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and commercial properties. We use breathable tanking, waterproof adhesive and flexible grout. Large-format tiles are laid with care to avoid lippage; natural stone is sealed as appropriate.
Subfloor assessment & preparation
We measure floor levels, test for damp and assess the existing subfloor. If the concrete is uneven, we hone high spots or use self-levelling compound. If timber is soft, we replace it. Damp sources are identified and treated: rising damp is managed with membranes or DPC; condensation risk is addressed through ventilation or material choice.
Underlay & acoustic consideration
We fit acoustic underlay under timber and laminate to reduce noise and improve comfort underfoot. For properties prone to moisture, we use closed-cell foam or recycled rubber products. Rigid insulation is laid before concrete floor finishes to add thermal performance.

Damp & rising moisture
Bromsgrove's older properties often sit close to clay soil and experience seasonal damp. We do not lay any flooring over a damp subfloor. If damp is present, we advise on treating the root cause (ventilation, guttering repair, DPC renewal or membrane installation) before fitting finishes. This protects your investment.
Subfloor stability & movement
Timber floors in period cottages can move with seasonal humidity changes. We fit engineered boards instead of solid wood in these cases, or allow wider expansion margins if solid timber is desired. Modern concrete floors are stable but must be level and dry.
Maintenance & lifestyle fit
Hardwood requires occasional refinishing and is less suited to wet areas. Vinyl and tile are low-maintenance and ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. We discuss your lifestyle and cleaning preferences; we will suggest the best match for each room.

How do you prepare an uneven Victorian floor in Bromsgrove?+
