Driveways in Redditch

A driveway is the first thing visitors see and the last thing you want to worry about. We install block paving, tarmac, resin, gravel and permeable systems. Each has different durability, maintenance and cost profiles. We advise based on your budget and intended use, everyday car park, multiple vehicles, or just one family car.

Redditch homes sit on varied geology. Some have deep drains; others are clay-based with poor drainage. We assess the site, establish falls and drainage so water does not pool, and build the driveway to last. A properly constructed driveway with good sub-base and drainage will give 15 to 20 years service. Cut corners and you will be resurfacing in five.

What We Do

Driveway options

Block paving

Flexible, colourful and easy to repair (you can lift and replace individual blocks). Sits on sand and compacted sub-base. Popular in Redditch. Requires edging and occasional re-sanding between joints.

Tarmac & asphalt

Hard-wearing, smooth and quick to lay. Good for steep drives and busy multi-car situations. Does soften in heat and may crack if sub-base is poor. Regular sealing extends life.

Gravel

Budget-friendly and quick to install. Requires regular raking and top-up. Not ideal if water drainage is poor, or if aesthetics are a priority, gravel migrates onto the road.

Permeable paving

Block paving or grids on gravel sub-base. Water drains through and does not pool. Better for sustainable drainage and flooding prevention. Slightly more complex to install than rigid block.

Sub-base & preparation

The foundations. We remove old driveway, excavate to the right depth, compact the sub-base, establish falls and install edge restraints. Cheap preparation leads to early failure.

Drainage

Surface water falls away from the property and does not pond. We create channels or install land drains if needed. Proper drainage prevents future problems.

Good to Know

Driveway building in Redditch

The practical and planning side, handled as part of the job.

Planning & building control

Most driveways do not require planning. But if you are paving an area larger than 5 square metres within curtilage and the surface is not permeable, local flooding guidance may apply. We advise. Building Regs do not cover driveways, but we ensure works do not damage underground services (gas, water, electric, drainage).

Drainage on Redditch estates

New Town housing in Redditch often has surface-water drains running under drives. We trace these, protect them and ensure our driveway sits above and does not crack them. Ground investigation is cheap insurance.

Questions & Answers

Driveways in Redditch: common questions

How much does a driveway cost?+

Pricing depends on area, material and ground conditions. A single-car 50-square-metre block-paved driveway costs differently than a loose-gravel one or a reinforced multi-car tarmac. Contact us with your dimensions and preferred material. We provide a free fixed-price quote.

How long does driveway installation take?+

Typically 3 to 5 days for a standard driveway, depending on size and whether old surface needs removal. Weather can affect timescales (rain slows tarmac work). We confirm the schedule upfront.

What is the difference between block paving and tarmac?+

Block paving is flexible, allows you to replace individual blocks and is more forgiving if ground moves. Tarmac is smooth, lower maintenance but less flexible and can crack if foundations are poor. Block is more popular in Redditch for residential properties; tarmac for high-traffic or steep drives.

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?+

Most residential driveways do not. But if you are paving a large area with non-permeable surface, local council guidance on sustainable drainage might apply. We check your situation and advise before you commit.
