Plastering & Rendering
Plasterers in Birmingham & the West Midlands
Plastering is the finish every other finish sits on. CH Developments provides plastering, skimming, dry lining and external rendering across Birmingham and the West Midlands for walls and ceilings that are genuinely flat and ready to decorate.

Overview
You notice bad plastering the moment the light hits a wall: ripples, trowel marks and patches that show straight through the paint. Good plastering disappears, giving you a flat, smooth surface that makes the whole room look finished. That is a skilled, time-served trade, not something to hand to whoever is cheapest.
We skim over old, tired walls, re-plaster after first-fix work in a renovation, dry line and board new stud partitions and ceilings, and render outside. It is a service in its own right and a part of almost every extension, conversion and refurbishment we deliver, which means it is sequenced correctly with the trades either side of it.
We cover Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and the wider West Midlands. We advise on drying times and the mist coat before you paint, deal with the damp behind blown plaster before we re-skin a wall, and are CHAS-accredited, fully insured and backed by a workmanship guarantee on the finished surfaces.

Re-plastering
Hacking off blown or damaged plaster and re-plastering, often after damp work or a rewire.
Dry lining
Plasterboarding and finishing new stud walls, partitions and ceilings, with insulated board where needed.
External rendering
Through-coloured and traditional renders to protect and refresh the outside of a property.
Good to Know
Planning, regulations and the practical side
The questions worth answering before the work starts. We handle the paperwork and the approvals as part of the job.
Drying times
Fresh plaster needs to dry fully before it is painted, and rushing it causes flaking. We tell you how long to leave it and what to use for the mist coat so the first decoration holds.
Damp first, plaster second
Plastering over an unresolved damp problem just hides it for a few months. If walls are blown from damp, we deal with the cause before re-plastering, not after.
The right finish for the wall
A solid wall, plasterboard and an external elevation each need a different approach and material. We match the plaster or render system to the background so it bonds and lasts.
What It Costs
What affects the price
Every project is different, so we do not publish one-size figures that rarely hold true. Instead we give you a free, fixed-price quotation after a site visit, so you know the full cost before any work begins. These are the main things that move the price:
- Number and size of the rooms or walls
- Skim over existing versus hack-off and re-plaster
- Ceilings, which take longer than walls
- Internal plastering versus external render
- Access and scaffolding for external rendering

Questions & Answers
Plastering: common questions
Can you skim over my old walls?+
In most cases yes. If the existing surface is sound we can skim straight over it for a smooth finish. If the plaster is blown or damp-damaged, we hack off and re-plaster instead.
How long before I can paint new plaster?+
Fresh plaster needs to dry fully first, which can take from several days to a few weeks depending on conditions. We advise you on the timing and on the mist coat to use first.
Do you render outside walls?+
Yes. We apply external render, including modern through-coloured systems, to protect and refresh the outside of a property.
How much does plastering a room cost?+
It depends on the size of the room, the state of the walls and whether it is a skim over existing or a full hack-off and re-plaster. We look at it and give you a clear, fixed price.
Which areas do you cover for plastering?+
We plaster and render across Birmingham & the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding towns.
